Lee Jeong Hoon
PrincipalFounded in February 2009, JOHO Architecture is the new brand name of architect Jeong Hoon Lee. The name “JOHO” derives from the Chinese characters 造好, meaning “to build” (造) and “to like” or “to favor” (好). The firm was established with the philosophy of interpreting architecture on a humanistic foundation and, based on this, generating new identities and discourse for the contemporary city. It also pursues architecture as a form of total design that leads the overall building process, rather than limiting the role to that of an individual architect within a fragmented system.
JOHO Architecture treats materials as units of a kind of geometric measurement, developing design through their aggregation, addition, and subtraction. This concept, termed “Material_metry,” refers to reinterpreting the meaning of materials within the context of the site, ultimately aiming to reconstruct architectural space on a humanistic foundation. Through flexible design strategies that respond to a wide range of programs and scales, the firm seeks to create sustainable environments and user-centered spaces. It also explores new possibilities in architecture through experimental design and construction methods, contributing to contemporary architectural discourse.
