KTX Parking Complex
[KTX Parking Complex] Located in Ulsan’s new urban center, the KTX Parking Complex responds to complex urban conditions where parking shortages and commercial programs overlap. Under Korean building regulations requiring a composition of 70% parking and 30% commercial space, the lower levels secure public accessibility through retail functions, while the upper levels consist of wedding halls and convention spaces. An intermediate parking layer connects these programs, enabling a flexible vertical organization. The façade reflects this spatial structure: the lower portion features a glass façade with aluminum louvers that expresses the speed of the KTX; the parking areas are enclosed with perforated aluminum panels that reveal dynamic interactions of light; and the topmost le 2026.01.14Seolhaeone X JOHO Architecture
[Seolhaeone and JOHO Architecture] Through the journey spanning from the Seolhaeone Clubhouse to Seolhaebyeoldam, We sought to realize the 'Art of Resort,' transcending the boundaries of simple leisure facilities. This video provides an in-depth look at our master plan for Seolhaeone, where the expansive nature of Yangyang and sculptural architectural beauty merge organically to offer artistic inspiration to its dwellers. From the linear aesthetics of the Clubhouse that trace the contours of the land to the private, contemplative spaces of Seolhaebyeoldam, the film captures the process of nature and architecture culminating into a single artistic narrative. 2024.11.18EL 16.52 Café
[EL 16.52 Cafe] A new coffee shop called EL 16.52 has opened near Songdo Beach in Busan, South Korea, offering beautiful views of the southern sea. EL is an abbreviation for elevation, and the name EL 16.52 refers to the elevation of the café’s ground floor, which is 16.52 meters above sea level. The café is located in the heart of Amnam Park, surrounded by dense forest and dramatic cliff formations. Amnam Park is a national natural park composed of sedimentary rock formed over one billion years ago, and it serves as an essential place for Busan citizens to enjoy its exceptional natural environment. The café building was designed to fully embrace the site’s topographical features and the diverse attractions of both sea and land. [FRITZ HANSEN Interview] At JOHO Architecture, we strive to create rational spaces that embody the spirit of the times, translating humanistic inquiry into refined sculptural forms. In this featured interview with Fritz Hansen Korea, Principal Lee Jeong-hoon shares his profound design philosophy—the process of constructing architectural entities upon a framework of philosophical contemplation. We invite you to explore our vision of the essence of a 'good space' and the ongoing journey of JOHO Architecture as we seek to define the fundamental values of the spaces we inhabit. 2022.09.17MMCA Gwacheon Project 2022 | Garden in Time
[Garden in Time] Garden in Time, a reinterpretation of the rooftop space at MMCA Gwacheon, proposes a new spatiotemporal experience where artificial structures intersect with the rich natural ecosystem of Gwacheon. This interview illuminates the process of visualizing the rhythms of the seasons, weather, and the flow of light through the linear patterns created by sculptural pipe structures, highlighting how visitors can restore their natural senses while strolling through the garden. In this video, you can explore JOHO Architecture's experimental endeavor to transform a static museum rooftop into a dynamic space for contemplation, layering artistic imagination over a site imbued with historical memory. 2022.06.28Seolhaeone Clubhouse Renovation
[Seolhaeone Clubhouse Renovation] The remodeling of the Seolhaeone Clubhouse goes beyond a functional expansion, and represents an attempt to reinterpret the meaning of the “garden” that Seolhaeone requires. The garden is no longer merely a landscape element, but is expanded into an architectural device that restores the identity of the place. In architecture, the garden is not a traditional landscaped space, but an imaginative space filled with the texture of light. This garden harmonizes with Seolhaeone’s clear sky light and functions as a “corridor of light” that connects the newly added spaces. Light transforms flat architectural space into a three-dimensional experience, generating new spatial qualities through volumes of varying depth formed within the roof section. [Eaves house] Located in Gwacheon, Eaves House demonstrates how traditional Korean eaves typology can be integrated to meet high environmental and aesthetic standards. The site lies between Gwanaksan Mountain and Cheonggyecheon Stream, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The goal of this project is to create an architectural outcome in which nature and spatial experience coexist. The curved form, inspired by the contours of the surrounding mountains, extends the natural scenery while opening toward the sunlit southeast. The eaves, emphasized as a key design feature, are fundamentally inspired by traditional Korean roofs (cheoma). Beneath them, the structure is composed of white-painted stainless steel pipes, each featuring patterns that reflect traditional 2021.04.02PLATFORM-L | Open Promotion Film

[KIST Meditation Pavilion] The KIST Meditation Pavilion began with an interpretation of a strategic exploration of materiality. Created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), this project undertook the challenging task of constructing a building using a single material, in order to emphasize the philosophy of scientific and technological innovation. The structure consists of four UPC panels, each 8 cm thick, engraved with the names of 853 of the most influential scientific inventors. Each letter measures 3.65 cm in length, width, and height. The panels were effectively customized and designed in consideration of UHPC’s ease of fabrication. A critical study in architectural engineering, investigating how the panels could s 2019.04.08
