Library of Light
Library of Light
Writing
Throughout human history, creative minds have sought new enlightenment and built spaces have been evolved by those seeking to enrich the world. The library is a place and a sanctuary for generating such creative enlightenment and worldly enrichment; it is, in the words of Louis Kahn, a place where the immeasurable and the immeasurable meet by silence and light, a poem in itself. The Library for Thought is, in this sense, a poetic system composed of various emotional spaces of light. The interior of this space is constructed from a combination of colorful lights and a variety of formative vocabularies.
Each of the different programs is divided into light spaces with different levels, and the library and reading rooms are repeatedly arranged by such light flows. The central lobby is composed of deep, richly expansive light, and visitors perceive the space by the sequence of light that wraps around the interior and exterior. While the lower level is a place where vertical light meets the exterior landscape, the upper level is a place where various light directly confronts the spatial functions, i.e., the low-ceilinged library and the high-ceilinged reading room speak to the spatial sensibility created when silence meets the colorfulness of light. In these spaces of light, users will be inspired to create new knowledge and learn creatively. These different light volumes form a dynamic external mass, and the second floor and rooftop of this programmatic mass are used for relaxation.
